Liverpool fans made to wait as Premier League consider June return to complete the season

It would take a further six weeks to complete the 2019/20 calendar.

The English Premier League is tentatively targeting a resumption on June 1.

That’s according to a report in the Sunday Telegraph.

Reports today suggest the sketchy plan was a ‘best-case scenario’ with a view to completing the season over six weeks after the delay caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The plan would lead to the start of the new season taking place in August meaning a summer break of less than two months between games.

Fixutres would be played out behind closed doors with the 2020/21 season still earmarked to being on 8 August.

Player contracts could be an issue although world governing body FIFA has said it is looking into possible ‘dispensations’.t

It is thought that TV revenue already paid out to clubs would have to be returned to broadcasters should the season not conclude, that figure somewhere in the region of £1bn.
