Kilkenny’s All-Ireland prospects should not be discounted says one former manager

Former Kilkenny Senior manager Kevin Fennelly says their prospects for the All-Ireland Qualifier series should not be discounted.

Speaking to KCLR, Kevin says there is very little separating a lot of the teams.

“If you look at it, there is not a puck of the ball between any of the teams and we are good as any of them”, says Fennelly.

“If we just get organized and get a run of fitness – and our fitness levels didn’t look as good [against Wexford] – but I wouldn’t like to blame our fitness men for that. It might be just we are leg weary and it might be just there might be a bit more miles in the clock on our team like, so we are still there with the best of them and not a puck of the ball away from them.”

“Now we might not win an All-Ireland and I think they will have a very big job to win the All-Ireland, but Tipperary are still in with a big chance and they are in the first round as well so I wouldn’t be writing us off.”

If Kilkenny have designs on Croke Park this September, they’re going to have go the long way. With Carlow and Laois playing in the preliminary round on 25 June, there is a chance that Kilkenny could meet their neighbours, but they won’t know their first round opponents until the draw is made in the wake of the preliminary round of games.
