Damien McGrane says Shane Lowry’s win is worth way more than the prize money

He's climbed to 17th in the world rankings and will be going home with a cheque for 1.7 million euro

Carlow Golf Club Pro Damian McGrane says Shane Lowry’s Open win will have far reaching benefits beyond the pig pay packet he picked up for it.

He’s climbed to 17th in the world rankings and will be going home with a cheque for €1.7m.

Damien, who played professionally with Shane says it opens up a huge amount of channels.

He said “From now on he will only play with the top players in the world, every draw on the European and the US tours, he’ll be out with the number one players every week”.

“He’ll get all the best tee times, his golf business, his management and all his contracts will all come to full fruition, his win will be worth many many times more than the prize money he won”.
