Bernard Jackman takes over as head coach at Newport Gwent Dragons

Tullow native Bernard Jackman is the new head coach at Welsh side, Dragons.

The former Ireland hooker takes up the role left vacant by Kingsley Jones’ departure. Jackman was previously head coach at Grenoble.

Wales and Lions head coach Warren Gatland is one of those who recommended Jackman for the role.

“Bernard is an ideal fit for the Dragons and I know he will be work diligently and exhaustively to ensure that the set-up both on and off the pitch at Rodney Parade is of the very highest quality,” said Gatland, speaking from the current Lions tour of New Zealand.

“He will be a huge asset to the Region, he will create the right environment to allow a talented group to become even better players at the Dragons and he is someone in whom the supporters will find they can put their trust as he will work tirelessly in his pursuit of success.”

The WRU officially takes control of the Dragons next month after completing its takeover of the club.

The Dragons finished second bottom of the Pro 12 in the season just past, having won just four times.
