Georgie Leahy has passed away at the age of 78 following a lengthy illness, he died peacefully at his home.
Today he’s described as one of Kilkenny hurling’s greatest-ever servants.
Georgie worked with the Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford and Carlow teams in various roles including trainer, coach, selector and manager.
Amongst his many achievements was that of being Manager and sole selector with his own club team James Stephens when they became the first team from Leinster to win the Senior Club All Ireland Title.
He also managed the Glenmore club team to their All Ireland success also.
The Kilkenny GAA website paid tribute today saying Georgie Leahy was “a man who gave so much of his time to the promotion of our game at both Club and County level”
