Kilkenny and Carlow, the 2016 Intermediate and Premier Junior champions lead the way with the biggest number of nominations for this year’s Soaring Star awards, held as part of the All-Star Awards night on 5 November.
All-Ireland Intermediate champions Kilkenny lead this year’s Intermediate Soaring Stars nominations with six nominees. Amongst their nominees are defenders Edel Frisby, Jennifer Norris and Róisín Phelan, and forwards Jenny Clifford, Ciara Holden and Keeva Fennelly who was Player of the Match in the All-Ireland Final. Cork have five nominations, Laois and Meath with a pair each while Antrim, Kildare and Tipperary have one nomination each.
In the Junior Soaring Stars category, All-Ireland Premier Junior champions Carlow lead this year’s nominations with six nominees. Amongst their nominees are defender and 2015 Junior Players’ Player of the Year Kate Nolan, and forwards Emma Brennan, Marian Doyle, Rachel Sawyer, Eleanor Treacy and Ciara Quirke. Fellow finalists Armagh have five nominations, Roscommon and Westmeath with a pair each while Dublin, Kerry and Limerick complete the linup with one nomination apiece.
With 18 nominations at each grade, six awards will be presented for the Intermediates and six for the Juniors.
