Kilkenny hurling legend and IT Carlow manager DJ Carey says there should be “no panic” to rush the younger players within the Cats senior squad.
Kilkenny host Cork in a must-win Allianz National Hurling League clash this Sunday at Nowlan Park and speaking to KCLR this week, Carey says the management in place are the very best to bring the younger guys forward.
“Kilkenny should be in absolutely no panic, no matter what”, he says.
“The very best people are with Kilkenny. Brian Cody and Mick Dempsey, Derek Lyng, James McGarry, they are the very best to take these guys forward and you know what, there is no problem, there should be no panic.”
“If we don’t win an All-Ireland this year, so be it.”
“We have to go forward for a year or two, that’s not saying we won’t do it this year but within a year or two, we will certainly in my opinion be the best or one of the best teams in the country again.”
Carey appears to be taking a similar approach to IT Carlow with the students securing a place in the final of the Fitzgibbon Cup this year for the first time, losing out last weekend to Mary I of Limerick.
